ISME Ireland - Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP Shows Strong Support for SMEs and Entrepreneurs
Strengthening SME and Entrepreneurial Growth Through Trusted Business Leadership
A productive and engaging meeting was held with Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, Member of the European Parliament (MEP), to discuss the priorities of ISME, with a clear focus on SMEs, entrepreneurship, and the importance of supporting local enterprise. The meeting, held at Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa and attended by local businessman Eamon Walsh of Clonakilty, highlighted the critical role that small businesses and entrepreneurs play in driving innovation, employment, and sustainable economic growth across Ireland.
Neil McDonnell joined the discussion remotely, contributing valuable insight on the challenges and opportunities currently facing SMEs, and reinforcing the need for practical, pro-enterprise policy support at both national and European level. Chartered Accountant Cormac Fitzgerald FCPA FCA of Fitzgerald & Partners, an SME specialist and Board Member of ISME, emphasised the importance of trusted business leadership in fostering a strong and resilient SME sector, and in supporting entrepreneurs as they navigate an increasingly complex business environment, including rising costs of doing business.
Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP demonstrated strong engagement with SME and entrepreneurial issues, reflecting a clear commitment to ensuring that the voice of small business is effectively represented within the European Parliament. ISME continues to play a vital role as an independent advocate for SMEs and entrepreneurs, representing over 10,500 members nationwide and serving as a leading voice for the sector in Ireland.
This engagement reflects a shared commitment to supporting SMEs and entrepreneurs as the backbone of the Irish economy. SMEs account for approximately 99% of businesses and are central to the vitality of towns, villages, and rural communities across the country. The meeting also included discussion of the recent ISME report supporting everyday entrepreneurs and SMEs, which highlights the importance of a balanced enterprise policy—one that continues to support Ireland’s success in foreign direct investment (FDI), while also championing indigenous enterprise and the everyday entrepreneur. The ISME report sets out practical insights and opportunities to further strengthen the sector in a positive and sustainable manner.
